Even the most organized person sometimes find herself searching for some important easy-to-lose things, such as smartphones, keys and so on.

Try to figure the headache you suffer when you don’t remember where you parked your car and you are in a rush for a meeting? Well. Filo, startup accelerated by LUISS ENLABS program, has come up with the solution for this problem. They created Filo, a small Bluetooth Blue Energy based device that allows you to track your things: cars, small objects, pets, and even children. The name “Filo” comes from the combination of the first two letters of the words: “Find” and “Localize”.

Filo team has an excellent mix of skills. The CEO Giorgio Sadolfo is an Informatics Engineer who have worked as freelance for many years for Microsoft and Google. The CCO Francesco Lapo Ceccherelli is an art director with years of experience in several ad agencies behind him. The CMO Roberta Alessandrini is a marketing expert specialized in visual merchandising with experiences at Diesel and Trussardi. The CTO Stefania De Roberto is only 23 years old and she has almost finished her Engineering Master Degree! Giorgio, Lapo, Roberta and Stefania met each other during InnovActionLab and since the very beginning had the intuition that it could be great to work together! Some of them abandoned what they were pursuing before to completely devote themselves to express their personality in their own project and become real entrepreneurs.

How does Filo help to never lose important things?
First, you connect Filo to a desired object. We are working to make Filo 100% portable and integrable with other objects, such as wallet, rucksack, etc. Why this decision? Just because important things are different for everybody. To me for example, as a father, these are my children. For a businessperson, it is important to find easily his or her hand luggage in the plane.
Then, you keep an eye on the object through Filo App. The technological distance imposed by Bluetooth is 100 m, however our idea is to develop a network of users to enable a collaborative search among them. In this case, even if your object is out of 100 m distance, you can still find it asking other people to help you.
Another way to control your things is to set a “comfort zone”: when a thing drops out of the space, you get notified!

What is your go-to-market strategy?
We focus on 7 identified macro areas, including businesspeople, travelers, pets owners, sports people, etc. In each segment we plan to identify early adopters and adapt our product to satisfy their needs at most. Afterwords, we are going to use appropriate channels different for each segment to distribute Filo. We are still choosing the message we would like to transmit, for sure one of them is quality: Filo is 100% “Made in Italy”.

Who are your competitors?
There are different competitors for our product that use similar technologies to solve the same problem. Overall, there are 22 startups. Tile and Trackr are our main US competitors, Tile has been the first to introduce a really basic, disposable device. In EMEA region, there are 4-5 competitors, with Portugese Lapa attracting 9% of Italian adopters and Slovenian Cipolo selling a really basic product. Our competitors have already gathered more than 7 million dollar through crowdfunding. Most of our competitors do not sell a finished product, providing a “preorder” option. At the moment, we are developing our product adapting it to the needs of each identified market segment to provide a complete solution.

Which objectives would like Filo to achieve?
Now Filo is pioneering the Internet-of-Things sector, later this sector will grow at an even faster rate. For sure, there will be other technologies developed. Currently, the global market of smart-connected devices amounts to 2 billion of devices in the world and enjoys a rapid increase +17,6% (IDC, first quarter 2014). In Italy there are 24 million devices (2013). We aim at the 5% of the market. The premises are good and we believe in the successful exit of our startup. From our side, we will invest all our efforts and talent to make it real!
