Some of you might remember this year’s edition of BNP Paribas International Hackathon, held simultaneously in Rome, at our headquarters, and in 9 other cities of the world on June 9th to 11th. It was an intense weekend of thinking, briefing, coding and so on, at the end of which the 16 participating teams presented their projects to the jury, that decided to award five teams instead of four. The story doesn’t end here… After the hackathon weekend, the five teams, BankonVR, BB Boyz, GoSherpy, Mendua and SpidChain started a program that allowed them to refine their projects through the mentorship of experts from LUISS ENLABS, BNL Gruppo BNP Paribas, BNL Wealth Management and BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions. The projects were presented again to the hackathon jury on October 18th to select the 2 teams who will take part in the final Demo Day of the International Hackathon which will take place in Paris on December 1st and will see the finalist from all the 10 countries where the International Hackathon took place compete among each other. The two winning teams were:
    • BB Boyz, alias LUISS ENLABS' startup BaasBox, who developed BNL Boon, a web app that helps people achieve their own desires throughout their life and allows BNL to offer the right service to the right customer at the perfect moment. Whether it is a student, a clerk, or an entrepreneur, each objective is associated with the cognitive path for their own needs. BNL Boon will allow every user to give a path to a friend or a loved one becoming a real BNL promoter.
  • SpidChain, a startup currently taking place in LUISS ENLABS Acceleration Program, which has developed a project that speeds up the process of registering to online bank services and other types of online services. Thanks to the blockchain, with just one click the user can sign up to all those services that require the submission of certied identity data, by just going through the identication process one single time. For BNL, this results in a system that allows their users to instantly register to all the network services, and an innovative way to monetize the data of the user base (here’s an article about the hackathon taken from their blog).
Mendua, a team composed by three boys from three different LUISS ENLABS' startups, who created a marketplace for goods acquired through leasing for SMEs, also has a chance to go to Paris as it also competes in the international ranking of startups who created solutions for BNP Paribas Leasing Solution. The other two teams in the program were: BankonVR , a VR app allowing clients to connect with their bankers in an innovative and immersive way (who’s story has been written by one of the team members on his personal blog) and GoSherpy, who developed Maître, a lead generation and prospect customer profiling game for the bank. Although they weren’t selected for the Demo Day in Paris, they learned a lot through this experience, which represents a perfect example of an Open Innovation model based on collaboration between startups, innovation experts and a large corporate group. Startups now have a few weeks to go before the Demo Day in Paris and will work tightly with BNP Paribas experts to refine their projects and presentations. In Paris, they will present functioning MVPs with the aim of having them implemented by BNP Paribas. Also, in Paris we will discover the price that the city of Rome won at the International Hackathon global hashtag battle which took place during the hackathon weekend!
